The kids are trudging back to school. The grill is resting up after that last burger fest. But wait . . . summer is NOT over! There is still four weeks before summer officially passes the baton to fall.
Granted, this week I’ve had to wear a thick hoodie when walking my dog in the early mornings, and I found a massive browning leaf (see below) in the park last night, but I refuse to give up on more sunny days to come.
To me, hearing the weather person talking about losing hours of light in August and snow not that far away, reminds me of the glass is half empty folks.
Go the Distance
I’ve included a vintage photo from my childhood (yes, that’s me between my brothers), just to remind you to go the distance with summer. Here are 5 reasons summer is not fading away just yet:
- You still have sunscreen in the bottle.
- You just bought those on-sale shorts and T-shirts.
- You haven’t put away all your clothes from winter yet.
- Your pets love to run in the lawn sprinklers.
- Your summer to-do list is only halfway completed.
So bah humbug to the people who think summer is over. Come on. Slather on the sunscreen. Splash in your wading pool. Head out for ice cream in your new shorts and T-shirt. Just leave those winter clothes in their piles while you run in the sprinklers with your pets. And remember to combine you summer to-do list with your fall list. Just don’t start that combo list until September 22.
“Wherever you go, no matter what the weather,
always bring your own sunshine.” —Anthony J. D’Angelo
“In the summer, the days were long, stretching into each other. Out of school, everything was on pause and yet happening at the same time, this collection of weeks when anything was possible.”
